Sent the trigger and stock up the road and went with a Timney set at two pounds and a Boyds Tactcool stock. Glass bedding the recoil lug to offer a little more solid platform and a little ceracoat webbing to add to the looks. Hand lapped barrel and added an Abbott Arms threaded bolt knob. Topped it off with a Nightforce SHV 4-20×56 MOA ret. with a 20 MOA rail and Badger Rings. Since finished it shoots very impressive time after time with my loads and Hornady Match 168. Hole in Hole three shot groups out to 200 yds are very common. Great rifle out of the box but spend a little more and you can piss off all your shooting buddies with those $5000 customs. Got to love it.

This is a very good custom build rifle

This is just about a perfect rifle for a budget precision build, if you arent planning to go with a 2000$ scope this is probably the best rifle to start with, new stock, trigger and muzzle device with a proper scope and base will get you all the accuracy you would want for practical shooting, you can shave off 1/4 MOA from that but the price of getting that extra little bit of accuracy will be almost four to five times more expensive. Now you can get that level of accuracy out of this rifle as well but you will have to spend some money on the action which means taking the barrel off and I wouldnt do it until you need a new barrel. This is an excellent custom build platform. Take note that because the Accutrigger had a hole drilled through it to install the adjustment screw there are reports of the actual physical trigger breaking off in that region, because of this a Timney or a Jewel trigger is highly recommended.

Remington 700 SPS 308 Tactical AAC-SD

i bought this as a project precision rifle. not getting too much into my own modifications of it, this is a very accurate rifle. with nothing more than changing the stock (and my own reloaded ammo), i was shooting .45" groups at 100 yards (off the bench). it will and i have hit 840 yard steel silhouette targets shot after shot. stock trigger was crisp, but a little heavy for my liking. action is smooth, as is typical of all my experiences with remington 700s. durable finish, had it for a little while now and no rust of any kind, even after wet weather use. overall, it may need a little smoothing over the edges, but it’s a great rifle. good starting point if you wanna do what i did and make it a project.
